Microsoft Recall Feature Stays Put Despite Uninstallation Hopes
Microsoft's 'Recall' feature has been in hot water since its announcement in May. The feature, which is part of Windows 11, allows users to easily find previous work by taking constant screenshots of their behavior. However, critics pointed out that it's highly susceptible to cybersecurity flaws and can even steal sensitive information like passwords.
After a report suggested that the feature could be uninstalled after all, Microsoft clarified that this was just a bug. In a statement, Windows senior product manager Brandon LeBlanc said that 'we are aware of an issue where Recall is incorrectly listed as an option under the 'Turn Windows features on or off' dialog in Control Panel.' This will be fixed in an upcoming update.
The feature has been delayed several times due to security concerns and was initially slated for release in June. It's now set to launch in October to Windows Insiders testers, but it will still require an opt-in to be enabled by default.
