Microsoft Redesigns Financial Reporting to Highlight AI and Cloud Growth
Microsoft has announced a major overhaul of its financial reporting, set to take effect in fiscal year 2027. The company will consolidate results into two primary segments: Agents and Infra, and Devices and Consumer. This change is intended to give investors clearer insight into how AI-related products and cloud infrastructure contribute to Microsoft's overall performance.
The new format groups Azure, AI agents, and productivity services together under the Agents and Infra segment, separate from hardware and consumer exposure. Deals with Stuut, Teradata, Laurel, and others will channel more AI workloads and data into Azure, Fabric, Dynamics 365, and Microsoft 365, which all fall under the Agents and Infra segment.
The key test of this reporting change will be the first fiscal 2027 reports that break out Agents and Infra, including narrower Azure revenue disclosure and any AI-related metrics tied to Copilot, agent usage, or partner-driven workloads. These filings will show how much of Microsoft's current AI and cloud activity is visible in segment-level revenue and margins.
The new reporting structure is part of Microsoft's ongoing efforts to highlight its growing focus on AI and cloud infrastructure. With a market cap of $3.8 billion, the company develops and supports a wide range of technology solutions for individuals and businesses worldwide.
