Microsoft Releases Heinkel He 70 Blitz Aircraft in Gamescom 2026 Lineup
Microsoft has announced the release of Local Legend 25: The Heinkel He 70 Blitz as part of its Gamescom 2026 lineup. This aircraft was built by the German manufacturer Heinkel from 1935 onwards, primarily for use in reconnaissance and light bombing missions.
The Luftwaffe used the He 70 during World War II, while some variants were sent to Spain during the Spanish Civil War. The design of the Heinkel He 70 influenced the development of the larger Heinkel He 111, which was also built into civilian and military variants.
Microsoft's version of the aircraft can cruise at 183 mph and reach a maximum speed of 220 mph, with a range of 1,130 miles and a service ceiling of 20,000 feet. The company relied heavily on archival material, including original plans that were digitized with assistance from the U.S. National Archives, as there are no intact He 70 airframes in existence today.
The game includes several historically accurate liveries, including several officially licensed Lufthansa schemes, which are part of a formal partnership between Microsoft and Lufthansa announced at Gamescom 2026.
