Microsoft Rolls Out Emergency Patches After Massive Patch Tuesday Update
Microsoft has released emergency patches to address issues caused by its record-setting Patch Tuesday update. The update addressed 974 unique Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs), more than double the previous high of 909 in all of 2023.
The problems, which included instability in Remote Desktop Services (RDS) and issues with Hyper-V virtual machines and USB audio devices, came to light last week. Microsoft flagged the RDS issues on Friday, noting that some organizations may experience issues after installing the Patch Tuesday update.
Ensar Seker, chief information security officer at SOCRadar, warned that the complexity of modern technology landscapes makes it increasingly difficult to reproduce every enterprise environment before a patch is released. He emphasized the importance of risk-based patching and staged deployment rings to mitigate the risks associated with large updates.
