Microsoft has rolled out its Low Latency Profile (LLP) feature to all Windows 11 users, aiming to improve performance across various apps and Win32 programs. The update is part of this month's Patch Tuesday for supported Windows editions and uses a 'race-to-sleep' design to quickly handle requests from applications that are about to launch.

LLP briefly forces the CPU to boost its frequency, potentially making apps launch faster. This feature was first introduced earlier this year in August, initially limited to Windows Explorer, but now expanded to support third-party software built using traditional Windows APIs such as Win32.

The update, KB5121003, has been confirmed by Windows Latest to have a tangible positive impact on Windows 11 performance. Standard apps like Notepad and Calculator, web browsers including Chrome, and even the Epic Games Store took less time to open and render their window content after installing the update.

However, some critics view LLP as a 'lazy trick' designed to artificially inflate the speed of an underperforming OS. Microsoft VP Scott Hanselman has defended the feature, pointing out that Apple does something similar with macOS, and users are embracing it. The technology is also standard in Arm chips from Qualcomm's Snapdragon X2 and Nvidia's RTX Spark.
