Microsoft Rolls Out Phone Sign-In Feature to Reduce Password Burden
Microsoft has rolled out its phone sign-in feature for users to access their accounts without entering a password. The feature is designed to reduce the burden of remembering complex passwords, as per Microsoft's blog post on Tuesday. The company aims to shift the security responsibility from users' memories to their devices.
The phone sign-in feature works in conjunction with the Microsoft Authenticator app for Android and iOS, but not Windows phones yet. Users who already have the app installed need to configure it by selecting the Enable phone sign-in option from the account tile's drop-down menu.
For those without the app, they can download it from their phone's app store, add their Microsoft account credentials, and then set up the feature. Once configured, users will receive notifications on their smartphone to access their accounts, but they can still choose to use a password if needed.
