Microsoft Rolls Out Server-Side Conversions API Amid Browser Tracking Woes
Microsoft has introduced a new Conversions API (CAPI) that allows advertisers to send conversion and customer interaction data directly from their systems to Microsoft, rather than relying on browser-based tracking scripts.
This move is aimed at addressing the growing unreliability of browser tags due to increasing ad blocking and privacy measures in browsers like Safari, Firefox, and Edge. Advertisers can no longer assume that their conversion signals will reach Microsoft's servers, leading to inaccurate attribution and wasted spend.
The CAPI is a server-side solution that sends events directly from the advertiser's systems to Microsoft, using a single setup for multiple measurement scenarios. This includes website events, CRM events, offline sales transactions, and mobile events.
According to Microsoft, the CAPI improves conversion measurement accuracy, increases attribution coverage, and supports audience creation for dynamic remarketing. It also future-proofs measurement investments as privacy requirements continue to evolve.
