Microsoft Seals AI Trust Deals with Teachers Unions, Shares Gain
Microsoft has made significant strides in gaining trust from teachers unions and school districts by committing to ten legally enforceable principles governing AI use in schools. These agreements were signed with two major teachers unions, bringing stricter regulations on sensitive classroom data usage. Microsoft's AI products will no longer be able to train their models using student or educator information, limiting data collection, and requiring the company to explain its systems to families in plain language.
The rules also prohibit AI companions and ensure that decisions carrying serious consequences remain subject to human review. This move comes after New York City and Los Angeles temporarily restricted student-facing AI tools. The agreements will allow school districts to add these provisions to new or existing Microsoft contracts starting November, without needing to reopen entire agreements.
The potential upside for Microsoft's shares is significant, with its current price of $495.93 sitting 15.03% below its GF Value estimate of $583.64. This suggests that if the company can successfully turn stronger trust into wider classroom adoption, it may see a substantial increase in value.
