Microsoft Sets Sights on Saudi Arabia with Cloud Datacentre Launch
Microsoft has announced that it will launch its first cloud datacentre region in Saudi Arabia in November 2026. The facility, located in the Eastern Province, will provide local hosting options for organisations and reduce latency for business-critical applications.
The announcement aligns with Saudi Vision 2030's goal of positioning the country as a regional technology hub through investments in cloud infrastructure, digital skills, and AI initiatives. Microsoft says it has already helped over 1.6 million people develop digital and AI-related skills through programmes delivered with government and ecosystem partners.
The new datacentre region will include three Azure availability zones designed to improve reliability and service continuity. According to Microsoft, local cloud infrastructure is expected to play an increasingly important role as organisations move beyond AI pilots and begin deploying AI applications at scale.
