Microsoft Sets Sights on Tripled Data Center Capacity Amid AI Boom

Microsoft is expanding its data center capacity to meet growing demand for AI and cloud services. The company plans to increase its capacity from 12 gigawatts currently to over 38 gigawatts by 2032, a significant jump of nearly threefold.

The computing shortages have forced Microsoft to restrict some new cloud subscriptions, pushing certain customers towards rivals, according to Bloomberg. However, the company is investing heavily in infrastructure with its fiscal-year capital spending reaching $145 billion.

Microsoft disputed specific capacity figures, but it's clear that the company is prioritizing expansion. The expansion plans include bringing new capacity online near Atlanta to ease pressure on existing data centers.
