Microsoft Shifts Focus Back to Core Windows Experience
Microsoft has acknowledged neglecting Windows fundamentals for years and is refocusing on performance and reliability in Windows 11.
The company's Windows boss, Pavan Davuluri, wrote an open letter to the Windows Insider community in May, outlining improvements that would be coming to Windows, including more control over updates, a 'more intentional' approach to AI, and attention to performance and reliability.
Last week, Davuluri shared a progress report on the team's work, which included fixes for responsiveness issues in File Explorer, Search, and Start. The company has also been working on improving memory efficiency and reducing Windows' memory footprint.
The pressure to monetize Windows has led Microsoft to focus on turning Windows into a billboard for its other products and services, with promotions, nudges, and cross-selling taking center stage. However, the company is now shifting its attention back to core parts of the user experience.
