Microsoft Simplifies Windows 10 Context Menu with User-Friendly Update
Microsoft has been working to improve File Explorer and the Context Menu in Windows 10. The company admitted this year that it needed to 'win back' its fans, who have been complaining about feature overload, poorly designed choices, and instability issues.
The problems were so severe that Microsoft said a single freeze while renaming a file or a slow right-click could outweigh dozens of smooth interactions. To address these issues, the company has spent months tinkering with File Explorer and making significant changes to the Context Menu.
The update is available in the Experimental Windows Insider Channel and includes features such as inline options for Cut, Copy, Paste, Rename, Delete, and Share, which can be turned on or off. The Context Menu has been simplified, and users can customize it to their needs rather than relying on the operating system's defaults.
Microsoft also admitted that some of its previous changes may have made things worse, and it is now giving users options to revert to the older, more familiar interface if they prefer. This includes the movable Taskbar feature, which was dropped in Windows 11 but has been reinstated for users who want it.
