Microsoft Slashes Xbox Cloud Gaming Limits Amid AI-Driven Restructuring
Xbox Cloud Gaming has been scaled back, and users are not happy about it. Starting in November 2026, Microsoft will impose hourly limits on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate users playing cloud games, with a 15-hour cap per month, while Premium subscribers will be limited to 10 hours and Essential subscribers to 5 hours.
Microsoft claims this change affects only 4% of Xbox Game Pass subscribers, but that still translates to over a million players. The move has been met with criticism from within and outside the Xbox fanbase.
NVIDIA GeForce Now, a competitor to Xbox Cloud Gaming, offers more generous hourly limits, with its highest tiers allowing up to 100 hours per month, some of which can roll over to the next month.
Xbox Cloud Gaming users who rely on the service for gaming may be forced to look elsewhere, especially if they have already invested in cloud-first devices like the Xbox Ally base model or Logitech G Cloud. Microsoft is expected to offer per-hour passes to boost access, but prices are yet to be announced.
