Microsoft Smashes Patch Tuesday Record With 974 Vulnerability Fixes

Microsoft's latest Patch Tuesday release has set a new record for the company, addressing a staggering 974 vulnerabilities across its entire stack. This is by far the largest security update Microsoft has ever issued, with the previous record being 1,139 CVEs patched in 2025.

The majority of the vulnerabilities, 723, were related to Windows, followed closely by Office with 111 issues addressed. However, it's worth noting that AI-assisted discovery tools are likely responsible for the increase in vulnerability detection and exploitation.

Of particular concern are two zero-day exploits, CVE-2026-85880 and CVE-2026-81963, which were already being actively exploited in the wild. Microsoft has emphasized the importance of installing the latest update to prevent further exploitation.

This is not an isolated issue, as other companies such as Adobe and browser developers like Google, Mozilla, and Brave are also experiencing increased activity in addressing vulnerabilities. In fact, Microsoft's own figures show that it has patched 2,760 CVEs this year alone, more than double any previous year.
