Microsoft Studio Cancels Unannounced Fallout Game Project
A highly anticipated Fallout game reportedly cancelled by Microsoft Studio
Fan demand for a new Fallout game remains high, but it appears that one project may never see the light of day. Veteran gaming journalist Jeff Gerstmann revealed on his show, The Jeff Gerstmann Show, that a Microsoft-owned studio had canceled an unannounced Fallout project.
The studio responsible for the cancelled project was not specified by Gerstmann, who served as GameSpot's editorial director in the 1990s and carries significant industry credibility. This has led fans to take the rumor seriously.
Gerstmann did not provide any details about whether the cancelled game was a mainline entry or a spin-off, fueling speculation among fans. Some had hoped that Obsidian Entertainment would be involved in the project, given their previous work on Fallout: New Vegas, but Gerstmann offered no indication of their involvement.
The cancellation is likely not related to the long-rumored remasters of Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas. Instead, Gerstmann noted a persistent rumor that Bethesda had outsourced the Fallout 3 remaster to an external studio, with Virtuos being one possible candidate. This would mean that another external studio is managing the New Vegas remaster under Bethesda's direct supervision.
