Microsoft Tackles Windows 11 Performance Woes with Memory Optimization Push
Microsoft is revamping Windows 11 to reduce memory consumption and improve performance on devices with limited RAM. The company has acknowledged that modern applications often consume high amounts of memory, making it challenging for users with 8GB of RAM to run their systems smoothly.
Citing the rising costs of RAM and its impact on device prices, Microsoft's Corporate Vice President of Design and Research for Windows and Devices at Marcus Ash explained that the company is addressing this issue by re-engineering Windows 11. This includes reviewing mechanisms for preloading applications, determining optimal memory usage, and improving user experience when memory is full.
The goal is to enhance system efficiency and competitiveness against other operating systems. To achieve this, Microsoft will be rolling out gradual improvements in memory management and performance before the end of the year as part of its comprehensive development plan.
