Microsoft Teaches AI to Find Bottlenecks in Windows 11

Microsoft is refining its Windows 11 AI capabilities by integrating them into the Windows Performance Analyzer (WPA), an advanced tool used to investigate performance issues. This integration, currently in testing, allows engineers to ask natural language questions about captured performance traces, which the AI then summarizes and directs the engineer toward relevant evidence.

The connection between WPA and the AI is powered by a Model Context Protocol server. Microsoft describes this integration as its 'visual companion,' linking the AI's conclusions with graphs and tables inside the analyzer.

This technology is aimed at developers, manufacturers, and Microsoft's own Windows team, rather than consumer-facing features like PC Insights in Copilot. The performance analyzer remains an early preview, requiring GitHub Copilot and an active subscription for access.
