Microsoft Teams Fights Deepfakes with New Report Button

Microsoft Teams is introducing a new feature to combat AI-powered deepfake meetings and security threats. The 'Report a concern' button allows participants to flag suspicious activity directly from a meeting, which will then be investigated by security teams.

The company warns that AI has lowered the technical barrier for fraud and cybercrime, particularly during online meetings. In 2025, Microsoft acknowledged that attackers can use AI to scrape web data, create authentic-looking deepfakes, and even clone voices with enough audio available.

With this new feature, participants can report phishing, impersonation, scams, social engineering activity, and other security concerns. Relevant meeting metadata and limited contextual information will be collected and stored to support the investigation.
