Microsoft Touts Clutter-Free Windows Experience for Developers with Project Zenith

Microsoft has announced Project Zenith, a new initiative aimed at creating a clutter-free Windows experience for developers. The project is designed to provide a distraction-free environment for local AI development, with a focus on powerful hardware that can support large models and high memory bandwidth.

The project will be available initially on AMD's Ryzen AI Halo mini-desktop, which requires 64GB of RAM, but more devices are expected to follow. According to Microsoft's Windows Platform CVP Logan Ayer, Project Zenith will allow developers to 'run 30B+ parameter models locally and unmetered.'

Ayer notes that the goal of Project Zenith is to provide a better baseline for developers, with settings like full file extensions and hidden files enabled by default. The project aims to be flexible, allowing developers to configure and personalize their environment as needed.
