Microsoft Transforms Security Culture With New Initiative

After years of high-profile cyberattacks, Microsoft has launched the Secure Future Initiative to revamp its security culture and technology. The initiative aims to make security a non-negotiable aspect of product development.

Hammad Rajjoub, director of the SFI, said that company-wide buy-in is essential for improving cybersecurity in an organization as large as Microsoft. He emphasized that 'security almost becomes a non-negotiable from that perspective.'

According to Rajjoub, CEO Satya Nadella's edict to prioritize security above all else has driven change in behavior. The company has implemented measures such as regular review conversations between the Cybersecurity Governance Council and business line leaders.

Microsoft engineers are responding positively to the new security-first mindset, with an average employee sentiment score of 88% regarding the cybersecurity push.
