Microsoft Unifies Copilot App Amid Restructuring
Microsoft has begun rolling out its unified Copilot app to Windows Insiders, marking a significant step in the company's restructuring announced in July. The standalone consumer app will lose several key features on August 18, including Group Chat threads and images, podcasts, and Deep Research reports.
The Deep Research feature, which allowed users to generate long, web-sourced reports, will no longer be available for free-tier users after August 18. Those who relied on this capability, such as researchers and journalists, will now need to subscribe to Microsoft 365 Premium at $19.99 a month to access the replacement feature called Researcher.
Microsoft has stated that it is rebranding its commercial web address from m365.cloud.microsoft to copilot.cloud.microsoft and expects the mobile and web apps to be updated by mid-August, with desktop app updates following in mid-September.
