Microsoft Unveils Disc-to-Digital Program for Xbox Players
Microsoft has confirmed the development of a disc-to-digital program for Xbox players. The feature, currently in testing with Xbox Insiders, allows owners to convert their physical game licenses into digital entitlements. This means that users can access features like Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Cloud Gaming while retaining their original physical discs.
The company has stated that most Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S discs are already compatible with the system, and thousands of games will be supported in the initial rollout. However, not every game will be eligible at launch, and Microsoft has emphasized that this is just the beginning of a broader effort to improve game preservation.
The disc-to-digital program is set to begin testing on Monday, August 31, and will initially be limited to Xbox Insiders. Microsoft has not announced when the feature will become available to everyone else, but has stated that it will continue to add more games over time.
