Microsoft Unveils Project Zenith for Rapid Coding on Windows

Microsoft has launched Project Zenith, a Windows variant designed to make PCs immediately ready for coding out of the box. This new configuration is aimed at reducing setup time for organizations and developers.

The project's debut is on AMD Ryzen AI Halo systems, compact PCs with impressive AI capabilities, including 64 GB of unified memory and at least 250 GB/s of memory bandwidth.

According to Microsoft, users don't always want to wait for the standard Windows configuration to run AI locally at an acceptable speed. With Project Zenith, a variant of Windows 11 is coming that is ready for coding without hours of upfront configuration work, as described by Logan Iyer, Corporate Vice President of Windows Platform + Developer.

The changes are significant compared to a 'standard' Windows installation, but they're also simple tweaks that can be set up individually with just a few mouse clicks. On Zenith machines, for example, Windows Terminal and Visual Studio Code are pinned to the taskbar by default.
