Microsoft Unwinds Tax Breaks on Multi-Billion Dollar Data Centers
Microsoft is working to unwind its tax breaks for data centers in Fulton and Douglas counties. The Big Tech giant was granted property tax breaks worth tens of millions of dollars for its projects across metro Atlanta, but now wants to void those agreements.
The company confirmed that it's working with the counties to cancel the local tax incentive agreements associated with its data center projects in East Point, Palmetto, and Douglasville. This move is part of Microsoft's efforts to ease tensions over its massive data centers, which have become a contentious issue in Georgia.
Microsoft's spokesperson stated that the company is 'working with Fulton and Douglas counties to unwind the local tax incentive agreements associated with our data center projects.' The data centers are valued at nearly $2 billion and are currently under construction. Microsoft has also established a Data Center Academy at Atlanta Technical College.
