Microsoft Urges Companies to Migrate From VBScript to OSLicense PowerShell Module

Microsoft is urging organizations to migrate their Windows activation automation scripts from VBScript to the OSLicense PowerShell module, as the company has started phasing out VBScript and plans to remove it from future Windows releases.

The current reliance on slmgr.vbs in many Windows activation workflows poses a problem for companies that postpone modernization, as these automations may eventually fail on newer versions of Windows.

Microsoft recommends identifying dependencies on slmgr, cscript, wscript, and other VBScript-based components, validating replacement scripts in test environments before moving them into production, and verifying compatibility with various devices and server versions.
