Microsoft Writeback Bridges Cloud-Managed Mailbox Discrepancies
Microsoft has made significant advancements in hybrid Exchange management by releasing Writeback for Cloud-Managed Remote Mailboxes in Exchange Online. This feature enables administrators to manage mailbox attributes in the cloud while automatically synchronizing key changes back to on-premises Active Directory.
The new capability aims to address the issue of disconnected mailbox identities, where changes made in Exchange Online don't synchronize with on-premises Active Directory. This disconnect can lead to inconsistencies for business applications that rely on on-premises Exchange attributes.
With Writeback, companies can modernize management without breaking existing systems. The feature supports 24 Exchange-related attributes, including custom attributes, recipient type details, proxy addresses, and the mail attribute. Microsoft has also increased support scale from 200,000 to 600,000 cloud-managed mailboxes per tenant.
