Microsoft's AI Revenue Dominated by Single Partner

Microsoft's fiscal fourth-quarter revenue reached $90.01 billion, with shares jumping roughly 8% in extended trading.

However, a closer look at the numbers reveals that nearly 70% of Microsoft's AI sales trace back to OpenAI, a single partner accounting for the majority of AI growth.

OpenAI's revenue has climbed to an annualized rate of about $24.1 billion in fiscal 2026, driven primarily by ChatGPT subscriptions and API usage through Azure cloud platform.

The partnership between Microsoft and OpenAI was restructured in April 2026, reducing exclusivity provisions and capping revenue-sharing arrangements through 2030.
