Microsoft's August Security Patch Critical to Address High-Risk Vulnerabilities
The Hong Kong Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Centre has released a critical update on Microsoft's monthly security patch for August 2026. The update addresses several vulnerabilities across various Microsoft products, including Windows OS.
The most significant risk is associated with the CVE-2026-68820 vulnerability, which is being exploited in the wild. This allows an attacker to gain SYSTEM privileges by running a specially crafted application on an affected system. A proof-of-concept exploit code is publicly available for this vulnerability, making it even more critical that users apply the update.
Microsoft has also released updates for other products, including Azure, Device, and SQL Server, among others. These patches address various vulnerabilities, including elevation of privilege, remote code execution, and information disclosure.
