Microsoft's Carbon Removal Projects Under Scrutiny

BeZero Carbon has released ex ante ratings of 14 carbon removal projects backed by Microsoft. The assessments cover four sectors and four countries, including the US, Argentina, India, and Peru. Each report evaluates project execution risk and wider environmental and community impacts before credits are issued.

The reports aim to provide a benchmark for buyers, investors, and project developers in the carbon market. They assess additionality, carbon accounting, and permanence, as well as operational and delivery risks. The publication of these assessments marks a move towards greater transparency in carbon procurement.
