Microsoft's Decades-Overdue Revamp of Windows 11
Microsoft has finally started to revamp Windows 11's legacy menus, but it's taken decades for this to happen. The company is updating several core parts of Windows 11 with WinUI, which improves performance and helps the operating system run on PCs with less RAM.
The updates are part of a new initiative that should not have been necessary in the first place. Microsoft has revamped settings and UI elements, but some of these improvements were promised months ago and are still limited to Windows Insiders and mockups.
Microsoft's CVP of Design and Research on Windows, Marcus Ash, discussed the challenges of updating Windows in a recent podcast. Ash acknowledged that updating legacy components can be tricky, but questioned why keeping Windows up to date and unified was not a core value from the start.
