Microsoft's Emergency Update Fixes Critical RDS and Hyper-V Bugs

Microsoft has released an emergency update to fix bugs in its Remote Desktop Services (RDS) and Hyper-V hypervisor services, following a record September Patch Tuesday release that broke both systems.

The out-of-band update, KB5129194, was published on September 14 with patches for two CVEs, neither of which had been exploited. However, the fixes for known issues with RDS, Hyper-V, and USB Audio drew scrutiny.

According to Microsoft, the RDS issue caused instability in affected environments, leading to RDP connection and sign-in failures, as well as unresponsive servers during Remote Desktop sessions.

The Hyper-V problem led to issues when sharing a host folder between some virtual machines. Microsoft acknowledged these issues on Friday, shortly after releasing the September update.
