Microsoft's Flat Hierarchy and Flexible Culture: A Tech Pro's Perspective
Sailesh Gurung, a techie who started his career at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), has shared his experience of joining Microsoft and how it transformed his view of corporate life. He highlighted key aspects such as a flat hierarchy, flexible dress codes, end-to-end project ownership, and employee-centric campus amenities.
Gurung explained that in his previous role at TCS, the culture was very structured with a visible hierarchy, seniors, approvals, and layers. In contrast, Microsoft's culture feels 'flat' where anyone can reach out to anyone, collaborate across teams, and be heard. He also mentioned that there is no dress code, and employees are encouraged to bring their world to work.
Gurung shared how his work ethic changed after joining Microsoft, where he experienced end-to-end project ownership, which meant more responsibility but also greater growth and pay. He appreciated the employee-centric campus amenities such as gaming zones, chill spaces, and places to rest and reset.
