Microsoft's Flatter Hierarchy and Flexible Culture Surprise Ex-TCS Employee
Ex-TCS employee Sailesh Gurung's experience at Microsoft was far removed from his time at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). In a recent post on Instagram, he shared six things that surprised him after making the switch.
Gurung started his career at TCS right after graduation and had a traditional view of corporate life. However, after moving to Microsoft, he noticed significant differences in workplace culture, hierarchy, dress codes, project ownership, and office facilities.
One of the major differences Gurung observed was the flat hierarchy at Microsoft, making it easier for employees to connect and collaborate. In contrast to TCS, where seniors held a lot of authority, Microsoft had a more relaxed structure that allowed for open communication.
Gurung also mentioned that there was no dress code at Microsoft, unlike his time at TCS, where formal attire was expected every day except on Fridays. He appreciated the flexibility and freedom to be himself at work.
The office environment at Microsoft was another significant departure from Gurung's experience at TCS. At Microsoft, employees could bring their family or friends to the campus, show them around, grab food together, even on weekends. This level of openness and community-building was new to him.
