Microsoft's Latest Windows Update Causes Chaos for Some Users
Microsoft has admitted that its recent Windows 11 update is causing problems for some users. The September 8 update, KB5124008, was intended to restore features from Windows 10, but it has instead introduced bugs and issues with various system components.
The company confirmed two known bugs and is investigating a third issue. Reports also indicate that there are at least two unconfirmed problems associated with the update.
One of the confirmed bugs affects WSL-based apps, including Claude Cowork, which is used by users to integrate their Windows file system with their Linux VMs. Microsoft has acknowledged the issue and said it is working on a solution.
Another bug causes Explorer.exe crashes, particularly affecting PCs with certain virtual desktop environments where user profiles are stored in containers. Users have reported issues with File History backups, which is a built-in Windows backup feature that automatically creates copies of files and maintains older versions.
