Microsoft's Special-Edition Xbox Could Hit $900 Amid Ongoing Gaming Hardware Price Hikes
The gaming industry is facing yet another challenge for enthusiasts and collectors alike, as rumors suggest that Microsoft's special-edition translucent green Xbox could retail for around $900. This price point would be even higher than what the console has become after multiple price hikes.
Dealabs, a French site known for its reliable leaks, lists the unit at a €900 price. Given Microsoft's tendency to match British and US prices despite conversion differences, it is likely that the special-edition console will retail for $900. The launch date is expected to be November 27th, putting it right around Black Friday.
CNET Managing Editor David Lumb noted that presuming the special edition is otherwise identical to a stock Xbox Series X console, the rumored price would be $100 extra for green plastic on top of the current $800 price after hikes. This would be a staggering $400 on top of the Xbox Series X's launch price of $500.
The price increases for gaming hardware are a reality of the games industry right now, due to rising component prices resulting from the RAM shortage, as well as tariffs and logistical issues. Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft have all raised their console prices in recent months, with Sony increasing its entire lineup by 29% in April.
