Microsoft's Top Comms Chief Frank Shaw to Depart by Year-End

Frank X. Shaw, Microsoft's chief communications officer for nearly two decades, is set to leave the company at the end of December. In a farewell note, Shaw said it was time for him to 'try new things,' bringing an end to his 17-year tenure as one of Microsoft's senior leaders.

Shaw's career with Microsoft spans over three decades, starting in an external agency and then moving within the company. He has worked under all three of Microsoft's CEOs: Bill Gates, Steve Ballmer, and Satya Nadella. As Chief Communications Officer since 2023, Shaw has been instrumental in shaping Microsoft's public voice.

The timing of his departure coincides with recent changes within Xbox, including Phil Spencer stepping down as CEO of Microsoft Gaming and Asha Sharma taking over. The exit also comes after the promotion of Matt Booty to executive vice president and chief content officer overseeing Microsoft's game studios.
