Microsoft has confirmed that its September update, KB5002914, is causing copy and paste issues in Excel. The bug affects users of Excel 2024, 2021, 2019, and 2016, who report that their paste operations fail silently without any error or warning.

The issue was first reported on Reddit and Microsoft's Q&A forums after the update was rolled out, with some users finding that uninstalling KB5002914 restored normal paste behavior. However, no fix has been made available yet by Microsoft.

According to a support document from Microsoft, the problem is attributed to a code regression in a recent service update. The company's development and validation team are still researching a solution, but no timeline for a fix has been provided.

In the meantime, users who rely on copy and paste functions in Excel may need to roll back KB5002914 using Microsoft's Click-to-Run or Office Deployment commands. IT administrators are advised to hold off deploying the update until a validated fix is published by Microsoft.
