Microsoft's Weather App Gobbles Up System Resources
Microsoft's ambition to optimize Windows 11 for budget hardware has hit a snag due to its own Weather app, which consumes an excessive amount of system memory. Tests show that the app can devour over 1.6 GB of RAM during simple interactions like zooming or scrolling.
This high footprint contradicts Microsoft's public commitment to optimizing the operating system for PCs with limited resources. On a machine equipped with just 8 GB of memory, the Weather app alone can seize nearly 20 percent of total system RAM.
The root cause of the bloat lies in the application's architecture, which is built on Microsoft's WebView2 framework and uses multiple Chromium-based subprocesses. This design choice directly contributes to the unusually high RAM usage.
