Middle East Energy Disruptions Fuel Record Profits for US Oil Giants
US energy giants ExxonMobil and Chevron reported significant earnings increases in their second-quarter reports. ExxonMobil's net earnings rose by 105% year-on-year to $14.5 billion, while Chevron's surged by 384.8% to a quarterly record of $12.1 billion.
The increase was largely driven by higher commodity prices, stronger refined product margins, and reliable operations. Chevron's oil-equivalent production increased 20% year-over-year, supported by assets acquired from Hess and growth in the Permian Basin and the Gulf of America.
ExxonMobil generated $23.6 billion in cash flow from operating activities and $17.2 billion in free cash flow during the quarter. The company distributed $9.4 billion to shareholders through dividends and share repurchases.
