Million-Plus Attic Ladders Recalled Over Broken Bolts
More than 1 million attic stairway ladders sold at Home Depot and Lowe's have been recalled after reports of falls and injuries. The recall affects over 1.7 million ladders, including those sold under the Louisville, Featherlite, Lite, and Century brand names.
The aluminum or wood frame ladders with gas struts come equipped with handrails and fold into the attic. However, the bolts on these ladders can break, causing someone to get hurt or fall to their death.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), there have been 11 reports of a bolt breaking, including one report of an injury to the neck, head, and back.
The affected ladders were sold nationwide between November 2012 and July 2026 by various retailers, including Home Depot, Lowe's, Do It Best, Orgill, Amazon, and others. The prices range from $170 to $600 per ladder.
