Millions of Attic Ladder Bolts Recalled for Risk of Fatal Falls

Louisville Ladder, Inc., a Kentucky importer, has recalled over 1.77 million attic stairway ladders sold at Home Depot, Lowe's, and other home improvement stores due to potential falls and injuries.

The recall affects aluminum or wood frame ladders with gas struts that come with handrails and fold into the attic. The bolts on these ladders could break, causing users to be injured or fall to their deaths.

The affected ladders were manufactured in Mexico and sold between November 2012 and July 2026 for between $170 and $600. They were sold under various brand names, including Century, Featherlite, Lite, and Louisville, and came in different sizes to fit different size attic openings in home ceilings.
