MIT Bengaluru Unveils AI Lab with IBM, Aims to Democratize Access to AI
Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) Bengaluru has launched an AI lab in collaboration with IBM, aiming to democratize access to Artificial Intelligence. The MIT-IBM AI Lab, MAHE Intelligence GPU (MIG) was inaugurated at the MIT campus in Bengaluru and is designed to provide advanced computing resources, research infrastructure, and digital skilling opportunities.
The MIG facility features a High-Performance Computing (HPC) setup that can support 30 high-performance computing workloads simultaneously. It will enable faculty members, researchers, innovators, and students to develop next-generation AI solutions in various fields such as machine learning, deep learning, generative AI, computer vision, natural language processing, cybersecurity, healthcare, intelligent systems, and data analytics.
The lab is not only focused on research but also aims to bridge the digital divide by providing AI education to students from Tier 2 and Tier 3 institutions. IBM SkillsBuild will offer free technology education programs, including AI awareness workshops, immersive bootcamps, hands-on training in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, and mentorship from MIT BLRU faculty and student volunteers.
The collaboration between MIT and IBM is seen as a significant step towards building an inclusive and globally competitive AI ecosystem. Karnataka's Cabinet Minister for Home, IT & BT, e-Governance, Government of Karnataka, Priyank Kharge, praised the initiative, saying it will empower students and researchers to accelerate innovation and develop AI-driven solutions that address societal challenges.
