Moderna and Merck's Cancer Vaccine Posts Promising Results
Moderna and Merck have announced a breakthrough in cancer treatment with their personalized mRNA vaccine. The late-stage trial showed a significant reduction in the risk of recurrence and spread of melanoma.
The vaccine, which is based on messenger RNA technology, was tested on patients with advanced or metastatic melanoma.
According to the companies, 24% of patients who received the vaccine did not experience disease progression over a median follow-up period of 15.6 months.
This compares favorably to historical controls, where 0-12% of patients achieved this outcome.
The results are promising and could lead to new treatment options for cancer patients.
