Moderna and Merck's mRNA Melanoma Vaccine Shows Promise in Phase 3 Trial
The mRNA-based vaccine developed by Moderna and Merck has shown promising results in its Phase 3 trial. The vaccine, known as intismeran autogene (formerly V940 or mRNA-4157), is designed to prevent melanoma from returning in patients who have undergone surgery.
In the trial, which involved 1,137 patients with high-risk melanomas, those who received the combination regimen of Keytruda and intismeran had longer recurrence-free survival on average than those only receiving Keytruda. The combination group also lived longer without seeing their cancers spread to other distant parts of the body.
According to Stéphane Bancel, CEO of Moderna, these findings represent a pivotal moment for cancer research. 'We are now helping turn that vision into a reality,' he said in a statement.
