Moderna Stock Drops Amid Cancer Vaccine Breakthrough
Moderna's (MRNA) stock dropped 4.6% on Friday to $138.77, despite a groundbreaking breakthrough in cancer vaccine research.
The biotech company collaborated with Merck to develop intismeran autogene, a personalized mRNA treatment that demonstrated a 49% reduction in melanoma recurrence across a pivotal study involving over 1,000 participants.
This success marks the first therapeutic cancer vaccine breakthrough in over a century and has sparked optimism among investors. Since the announcement of the trial outcomes, MRNA's stock has surged more than 130%, with analysts projecting revenue to reach $3 billion by 2035.
However, concerns about dilution have emerged as Moderna plans to secure up to $2.3 billion through convertible debt instruments, which could impact the company's profitability.
