Moderna's 127% Surge Raises Questions About Future Potential
Moderna's stock has seen an incredible surge this year, increasing nearly sixfold in the past 12 months. The biotech company, once a top COVID-19 vaccine play, has made significant progress with its non-COVID pipeline developments.
The latest jump of around 127% in recent weeks can be attributed to the positive results from Moderna's phase 3 INTerpath-001 trial, conducted jointly with Merck. The trial involved patients with Stage IIB-IV melanoma receiving a combination of Intismeran Autogene and Keytruda.
While this breakthrough suggests Moderna's mRNA technology can be effective in oncology treatments, some caution is advised. The company's rally may have been partly fueled by a short squeeze, leading to a potential cooldown in excitement. Additionally, commercialization of these products remains years away, with estimated 2026 revenue of $2.1 billion and forecast losses of $8.55 per share this year.
