Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed students at Shri Ram College of Commerce in Delhi, stating that if Indians can lead top global companies, Indian firms can also achieve global dominance. This remark comes at a time when India's economy has become the world's fourth-largest, surpassing Japan with an estimated value of $4.19 trillion.

Modi pointed to the fact that several high-profile Indian-origin executives now run major corporations worldwide, including Satya Nadella at Microsoft, Sundar Pichai at Alphabet and Google, Arvind Krishna at IBM, Shantanu Narayen at Adobe, and Neal Mohan at YouTube. Additionally, Ajay Banga is the President of the World Bank Group.

However, Modi's argument is not without its challenges. While Indian companies have made significant inroads globally, they still lag behind their international peers in terms of market value and influence. For instance, no Indian firm ranks among the top ten most valuable corporations worldwide.

The Prime Minister framed corporate leadership as an extension of India's self-reliance agenda, Atmanirbhar Bharat, which his government launched in 2020. He emphasized that with the right talent and institutions, Indian companies can compete on a global scale.
