Modine Faces Massive Demand Surge from Tech Giants
Modine, a century-old company that makes industrial chillers and cooling gear, has seen its data center business take off in recent years. The company has signed multi-billion-dollar deals with Google and Amazon Web Services (AWS), among others.
A GitHub repository containing Modine's internal database for its data center business was discovered by Hunterbrook Media. The repository shows that Modine is dealing with the challenge of too much demand, rather than finding customers.
The database contains detailed information on factory planning, customer projects, supplier constraints, and production schedules. It also tracks unit-level economics, including gross margin tied to specific customers.
According to the database, Google has a $4 billion cooling platform deal with Modine, while AWS has firm or likely commitments worth over $3 billion. The total modeled demand for Modine's cooling products is nearly $23 billion.
Modine appears to be trying to qualify its 1-megawatt coolant distribution unit against Nvidia's liquid-cooling requirements, marking the company's entry into the fast-growing liquid-cooling market.
