MOL Secures Long-Term Charter Deal for World's First LNG Carrier with Wind Challenger
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has secured a long-term charter deal with Chevron for its innovative LNG carrier, Fujin Sailor. The vessel is equipped with Wind Challenger, a hard sail wind-assisted propulsion system, making it the world's first LNG carrier to feature this technology.
The Fujin Sailor was named at a ceremony held at Hanwha Ocean's Geoje Shipyard in South Korea on September 10. It will be delivered under charter to Chevron at the end of September 2026. The vessel is also fitted with an air lubrication system and a shaft generator as environmental mitigation devices.
MOL plans to launch 25 vessels equipped with Wind Challenger by 2030, increasing to 80 by 2050, in its strategy to achieve net-zero GHG emissions by 2050.
