MOL's Wind-Powered LNG Carrier Sets Sail for Cheaper Emissions

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has marked a significant milestone in the maritime industry with the naming ceremony of its first LNG carrier equipped with wind-assisted propulsion technology.

The FUJIN SAILOR, which will be delivered to Chevron Corp. under a long-term charter contract at the end of September 2026, features two units of Wind Challenger hard sail wind-assisted propulsion systems.

This innovation is expected to reduce fuel consumption and associated greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional propulsion alone.

The ceremony was attended by numerous guests and stakeholders, including Molly T. Laegeler, President of Chevron's Supply & Trading business and the vessel's Godmother.
